NME Interview with RHCP

“Flea had put the idea [of rejoining] in my head,” he continues, “and I was sitting there with the guitar thinking that I hadn’t written any rock music in so long. Could I still do that?”

There is a new interview in NME with the Red Hot Chili Peppers Chili Peppers on the release of their new single, Black Summer, and the forthcoming album, Unlimited Love. It’s really in-depth and features insightful comments from members of the band. There are also numerous new photos. Enjoy!

You can read the full article HERE

You can see scans of the magazine that’s referred to in the new interview in our scan collection: NME August 1998

Article Translations

Two articles have very kindly been translated into English and added to the collection of magazine scans we have. They are:

OOR from September, 1991 (The Netherlands)

Rock and Folk magazine, 1991 (France)

Many thanks to Jamie and Jolan for doing this.

If you don’t know, we have over 500 articles from magazines scanned on this website. Most are in English but we have a number of publications in other languages too. You can access them from the ‘Articles and Scans’ tab under the website banner.

Happy New Year!

Wishing everyone the best for 2022! Let’s hope it’s a much better year and that we actually get to see RHCP perform in concert and nothing holds back the album release!

Maybe we should all shout Jumanji (or should that be covid-endi or even Frusciante if we’re going to rhyme and be appropriate?!).

Happy New Year!

Happy 60th Birthday to Chad Smith!

You know you’re 60 when you have a party and the neighbours don’t even realise.”

I don’t think this was the case! Chad celebrated a couple of days early with a party/concert, along with food from Nobu for guests, in Malibu. A stage was set up on the foot of the hills on the mountain side of the PCH… but the sound could be heard blasting across Point Dume and Malibu and the lights/smoke effects could be seen too. Chad was accompanied on stage by a number of musician friends including Andrew Watt. His daughter, Ava, also sang; she performed a cover of The Beatles’ Come Together.

Rest In Peace Blackie Dammett

Rest in Peace

Blackie Dammett/ John Kiedis

“Lord of the Sunset Strip”

7th December 1939-12th May 2021

The cruelty that is dementia has reached its inevitable end and Blackie, so sadly, passed away earlier today (12th May).
I know many of us here have fond memories of Blackie as the Head Honcho of the RHCP fan club. Others will have memories of someone who went on to become a dear friend, whether in real life or online. Some will know him as an actor and some of you will be family. You may only know him as the father of Anthony Kiedis and may have possibly have read his autobiography, ‘Lords of the Sunset Strip.’ He was also a talented artist, a collector of skulls and a champion of wolf dogs…

Blackie was a flamboyant, larger than life, character who blazed his own trail through life. His life certainly wasn’t conventional- nor was his method of parenting- and had its rollercoaster of ups and downs, but in later years he very much found his place leading the tribe of RHCP rockinfreakapotomi as president of the official fan club. He didn’t just produce the fan club magazine or organise meet-ups, but there was often a personal aspect too with individual letters or little mementos sent out to fans along the way. Blackie was an amazing link between the band and the RHCP fan base, and since his retirement, he has been very much missed having left a huge void in his wake.

I personally have missed my chats with Blackie about art and literature, & the crazy details of his life and his latest exploits. Helping with his book was fun and I was so delighted to be mentioned in the credits.

My thoughts and love, and I’m sure those of many of us, go to all of Blackie’s family and friends at this sad time, but especially to Peggy, Anthony, Everly Bear, Julie and Jen.
Rest in peace, my friend. Our friend. Head Honcho.
