Yup, La’s Funk Metal gods Red Hot Chili Peppers look certain to appear live in the UK this summer, possibly at their own outdoor show, but more likely at one of the UK’s festivals events. JON HOTTEN brings you the scam on the shows and the next Chilis album…

Red Hot Chili Peppers look certain to return to the UK for a major outdoor gig this summer!

Press reports that the band will headline a four-band bill at Nottingham Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in August seems premature, however, as RAW understands that a last-minute contractual hitch has put the show in severe jeopardy. The bill was almost settled when problems struck, although promoters have not completely ruled out the possibility of the deal being resurrected.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are now being hotly pursued by the organisers of the UK’s other summer festivals. At present, the Chilis look certain to be offered a headlining slot at either the second Phoenix Festival, which takes place o n 14-17 July at Stratford-upon-Avon’s Long Marston Raceway, or at the Reading Festival in August. Glastonbury is another option for the band.

With rumours rife of Pearl Jam and Nirvana playing outdoor shows at Milton Keynes, and an event in Chelmsford, the Chilis will certainly have no problem finding a place to play.

In the meantime, the band are writing material for the follow-up to their massively successful last album, 1991’s ‘Bloodsugarsexmagik’. The new LP will be their first with guitarist Dave Navarro, formerly of the legendary Los Angeles underground Art Rock band, Jane’s Addiction.

Navarro, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and drummer Chad Smith recently travelled to Hawaii to work on material, while bass player Flea remained in Los Angeles to continue his recuperation from a recent illness.

It’s unlikely that there will be any new Chili product to support the shows. The band will record the album throughout the summer, with a release due later in the year through Warner Bros.

Yo, Red-heads! What with the summer likely to see the first Chili action for too bloomin’ long (see news story previous page), RAW thought it’d be great to refresh your memory of what the suckers look like via the (very) large lens of Tony Woolliscroft! Browse at your leisure through this collection of previously unseen snaps and drool at the prospect of getting Red hot very soon. Uncensored?! Not ‘arf….
