Big Day Out on the Green 2003 (24 August)

OK, so it’s only on for one day, but with a line-up including The Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queens of the Stone Age, we reckon it might just be the best day of our lives! The venue’s Glasgow Green and the theme is rockin’. We’d always fancied a little trip to Scotland

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS have gone all  PC.  The Californian foursome played an intimate secret show on November 13 at the Roxy club in Hollywood to celebrate the launch of Microsoft’s new MP3 player Zune. “Should we do a duet with Bill Gates?” joked   Anthony Kiedis before a 450-capacity crowd which included David Blaine, actor Heath Ledger and Rick Rubin.

SUMMER ASSAULT!

? RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS are set to headline a new Metal festival taking place in Nottingham on August 20.

Details are still sketchy at this stage, but Mayhem can reveal that the US Funksters have been approached to headline a four-band bill taking place at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. A licence for the festival has been granted, and contracts with bands are understood to be changing hands. Tickets could go on sale within a week.

The show is rumoured to be the Chili Peppers’ only UK date this year, and judging by the success of the band’s latest single, ‘Give It Away’, looks likely to be a big crowd puller. More details soon…

We could be in for a long night if the Californian superstars opt to perform the hits from their 23 year career, as well as the highlights from latest album Stadium Arcadium’s 28 tracks. Quality control may be an issue now that the band seem to believe that everything they touch is golden.

CHILI PEPPERS: IT’S NOT CRICKET!

RED HOTCHILI PEPPERS are set to play their only show in the UK this year at Trent Bridge cricket ground on August 20. The gig is being promoted by Nottingham’s Rock City who’ve secured a 10-year deal with the local council to promote open-air gigs at the ground.

The promoters, who’ve been in secret negotiations with the Chils over the last eight months, are currently lining up a support bill of three more acts. Capacity for the venue is 32,000, and tickets, which are expected to cost f25, will go on sale within the next two weeks.

Although it’s the first time Trent Bridge has been used for live performance, it’s reckoned to have almost perfect sight-lines to the stage from anywhere within the ground.

LAST TIME K! SAID: “Musically the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on fire, Flea and Chad nailing those funk-fuelled rhythms to the floor while John Frusciante combines style and technical mastery to breathtaking effect. The Chills are no longer funky punks tearing up shitty clubs in a freaky stylee but they have become an awesome stadium rock act.”
