RHCP’s ‘Go Robot’ Video- Snippet Released!

A very brief teaser of the video to accompany the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new single, ‘Go Robot’  from their latest album, The Getaway, has been released. It shows Anthony Kiedis walking along a street with the caption, ‘coming soon’ at the end.

(Warning- not nudity but not much left to the imagination so think about when you view it!).

RHCP Tour 2016: Reading Festival!

P1060020

The Main Stage, Reading Festival

Despite driving there through a very heavy rainstorm, earlier forecasts in the week of rain and some heavy rain drops falling briefly, it remained dry for the whole day and later on (I took this when I first arrived) the sun came out and it was a lot brighter.

Date: Saturday 27th August, 2016

Location: Reading, England.

My Notes:

At some point they played a snippet of ‘Brimful of Asha’ by Cornershop

Flea and his daughter Sunny did a handstand together and then Sunny did a flip across the stage before the two shared a loving hug. So Sweet!

Rebecca’s Review of Reading!

I was there! I wasn’t originally going to the festival because of having to take my kids which wasn’t a good idea on so many levels but very last minute, thanks to some amazing friends who looked after my children and got a ticket to me as they had sold out by that point, I got to go!!!

Arrived at Reading early afternoon and then begin the 65 minute trek from the car park to the festival site (not that far) and on to the arena entrance (was that far! You had to walk all the way round the venue from the main entrance to virtually the opposite side to get to the actual day ticket entrance and then walk through part of the camp site to get to the arena entrance itself -on the way out you could just leave by the main entrance which took a few mins- and then through the ticket check point, the swap your ticket for a wristband tent, the queue for the arena and to go through security who just glanced at my bag and didn’t seem to do much but there was a long queue all the same… Total faff and the worst organised festival I’ve been to in terms of entrance ( e.g.the Isle of Wight festival sent you a wristband instead of a ticket which saved the faff of swapping things) although everything else was really well done.

Slaves
The first act I got to see was Slaves (Slave?). Sorry not my thing! I’m past puerile angst (and I think the vocalist looked old enough to be past it too!) and it’s been done better and more originally by others and I think I’m getting old but every other word (literally and including one song they played) doesn’t have to be the “f word”. But maybe that’s just me!

Eagles of Death Metal

P1060023
The next act was Eagles of Death Metal who were really good. A couple of songs in, the vocalist put on a RHCP t-shirt and a cape and he wore the t-shirt for most of their set until he removed it and threw it into the audience. It was also sweet how he did a shout out to his father and got the crowd to cheer for him. Loved their cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Save A  Prayer’ at the end of their set.

P1060028

I missed the next act while buying a t-shirt (obviously RHCP!) and food as the queues were a lot shorter when someone was playing although they sounded good and I regretted not getting stuff earlier on so I could listen to them properly.

Imagine Dragons

P1060040
Imagine Dragons were up next and I started moving closer to the stage partly as I wanted to see them and also to try to get a better spot ready for RHCP. Loved ‘Radioactive’ when it came out and bought the album but never got into it as it sounds so different to that first single but they were really good live and ‘heavier’ than the album. Will try re-listening to the album now!

P1060059

The Red Hot Chili Peppers
And then the reason why I went… RHCP! The set started with a trumpet solo before going into the jam leading into ‘Can’t Stop’. Amazing set! Obviously, I have songs I prefer to other ones and every song they played was one I really like so it was a brilliant set list as far as I was concerned AND I also got to hear some songs off the new album live for the first time which, of course, was amazing and I was very happy about! 🙂 The audience was great and there was a wonderful atmosphere.
I was close to the very end of the safety barrier for the start of the set but decided to move back  after a while as it was so hot and I couldn’t see Chad at all and wanted to see the whole stage for the new display- although I didn’t manage either of those as I ended up just a bit farther back than from where I started out from but I now had room to move about and treat Reading to my dancing skills ( :P). Many thanks to Stephanie and Anna (hope I got that right!) who decided that dancing with a totally insane RHCP fan to ‘By the Way’ (so glad your fav song got played!), through to the end of the main set and for giving me hugs during ‘Under The Bridge’ because they knew how much that song means to me, was the most normal thing in the world! Was great to meet you girls 😀

Shout outs too to Sage (think he was seven) who was at his first RHCP concert with his mum and who loves the band and also to the group from Guernsey I stood by at the side of the stage at the beginning- hope you enjoyed your first RHCP concert too! There was another couple I was chatting to for ages before I went in search of food (am amazing veggie burrito! Was so good!) and merch who were so friendly.  And to the guy who chatted me walking along the road back into Reading at the end of the concert. And the pics are attached at the bottom as promised for you guys who asked me to take them!!! Thanks everyone <3

I tried taking photos as I always do but I didn’t get any good ones- so disappointed and I actually cried when I saw them at home today as I’d tried so hard to get some good shots (final straw on a stressful day; my son ended up being rushed to hospital by my friend looking after him as he had a bad asthma attack. Despite being told he was fine as he’d responded well to treatment and that there was no need, I raced the 100 miles back to be with him as soon as my friend called me first thing this morning. He’s totally fine now but my stress levels are still high!) but it’s so hard to take them from the crowd. Have included the better ones. The first ones at the beginning are pictures taken of the display screens and came out the best of the lot.

RHCP Interview for RTL 102.5

Flea and Anthony Kiedis were interviewed for RTL 102.5 the other day. The interview is now online.  It’s in Italian but I’ve just received a translation of it into English!

The interview can be found HERE

Translation:

The speaker says how this is an absolutely exclusive interview, the only one for Italy, about “The Getaway”.

The interview took place in Paris on the 13th of June. He had to choose only two of the Peppers to speak with, and he asked for Anthony Kiedis and Flea. The other male speaker asks how the Peppers were feeling, he says that he found them really concentrated, really focused on this new album, that means a lot for them, that shows some changes, starting from the producer!

After Dark Necessities, he says something about the dazzling career of the band, reminding the two upcoming Italian concerts.

According to the interviewer ,the new album goes back in time even if the RHCP said goodbye to Rick Rubin and started to work with Danger Mouse. We can clearly feel purer sounds, Flea’s bass as the main character, a better sound articulation! Anthony answers that even if he respects his valid opinions, he doesn’t think that the album takes them back to the past, or better, there are some peculiar sonorities belonging to the past, but there’s a lot about future as well, it’s a kinda combination of those two sides. There’s a strong and rude power that can remind you of the old Red Hot, but in the new album we have brand new sounds, a new range of emotions and a brand new energy! Danger Mouse brought them a fresh and actual way of producing that let them reaching heady new lands. So, yes, there are some links with their past, but according to AK the whole album sounds really new!

The question after The Getaway, it’s about Flea writing his memories and how the band establishes their peculiar rhythm and sound on his bass. He kindly answers specifying that each one in the band is a part of the rhythm, not only him, even if he really appreciates his compliments. Than he says how writing the autobiography it taking a lot of time, considering that he’s writing on his own, with no help at all, and assuming that he’s involved in the creation of songs and in the development of the tour. He finds difficult, on side to make order in all his thoughts and memories, and on the other to produce something good, as he is a devote lover of literature since the very young age.

After Tell me Baby and By the Way, the interview goes on asking Anthony if it has been difficult to write and to record the new album. He says that it was, but in a good way. They learned so much during the recording, step by step, falling and rising. For example, Danger Mouse likes writing in studio, a thing that put pressure on them, ‘cause they have to do it! At the beginning it was really annoying, but Brian made them feeling each day more comfortable, he’s been able to show them that they can do something that they never expected they could really do in such a good way! And that is what a good producer does! He used to say to AK:”Come on, let’s sing an idea for this music!”leaving him like:”What?! Should I really do it now?! Can I just try?!” DM:”No, not trying! Just sing!”…for example, Go Robot’s vocal line went out in that way!

Then, the Interviewer asks Flea something that every RHCP fan desires to know! Does he express himself in such a crazy way (as he does on the stage) even in his personal life? He doesn’t seem, he maybe has got a deeper personality, just thinking about, for example, his passion for literature. So, are there two Fleas? He says that he’s the same person, but he distinguishes his public life from his personal life! He’s an entertainer, so when he express himself as an artist, he tries to do his best to entertain the audience. His personal life, is his personal life, even if he loves humanity. He think that the love that you’re able to feel shows what you truly are! But, of course, you’re also what you are and what people think you are, when they’re watching you on the tv or on their pc. He hopes that people, in their perception, love him, but he can’t control that!

The following question, is about the track called Dreams of Samurai, that feels like psychedelic, with Beatles’ ghosts in the atmosphere…we want to know if AK agrees with those impressions! He does! And he says thank you for noticing those intentions hidden in the song. He also says that Beatles’ ghosts are always welcome to join the party! Come on John Lennon, come on George Harrison! We’re always waiting for you! In the song there are also some background female vocals, from a Brian’s idea! The song has got an unusual timing, that for a long time made AK unable to compose a proper vocal line! It is not in 4/4 but he goes on in strange way, almost obsessive! One day, he figured out how to sing on it, and everything was alright! They definitely wanted to be more psychedelic, with that song, and he’s looking forward to play it live!

The radio plays Snow and Scar Tissue, and the interview goes on, asking Flea the meaning of The Getaway’s cover. He answers that it’s merely art, they make art! It is no didactic, not politic, it’s something ambiguous that people can interpret that can touch everyone in a different way! Definitions kill art! The most awful thing in the world, in Flea’s opinion, is that some people think that the only possible reading of the reality is theirs! There are a lot of different realities, and all of them deserve respect! But, back to the album cover, the girl is definitely Josh, the raven is definitely Anthony, the bear is definitely Chad and the raccoon is definitely Flea! Contradicting everything he said before!

The Getaway hosts such an unexpected collaboration, too! RHCP ft. Elton John! Anthony explains that it all begun when they composed the song called Sick Love! When they were listening at the final product, they observed sounds similar to the Elton John’s song, Bennie and the Jets, so they wanted to credit him, to pay him for his sounds. So they called Elton, explained him the situation and he offered by himself to join them in order to play the song! He’s funny, he’s warm, he’s humble…a true gentleman! He’s been through anything, and now he plays in our band!

The last question wants to enquire about the perception that the band has about the Italian fans, even if they’re followed worldwide! Anthony states that Italy is one of the best indicators of the quality of their works. It was proved when they recorded Californication, because they were in Italy on the day the album was released in the country, and AK heard few Italian guys, singing out loud Otherside inside their car, the very same day the album went out!! He thought it was impossible, but as he heard it, he felt really great about their new work, he understood it was a good one! So Italy is like a barometer (and he tries to say the italian word “barometro”), we know that if Italy likes what we’re doing, we’re doing a great job!

Thank you so much to Giorgia for translating this! It’s really appreciated 🙂

The Getaway Media Update 3

Finally a UK magazine (my collection has been feeling left out!) is running a review. The latest edition of Kerrang! (June 25th; issue 1625) has a full-sided review of The Getaway with the paint press release photo plus a snippet of the video interview they aired with Anthony Kiedis.

kerrang-1625-june-2016-1

Entertainment is also running a fairly lengthy interview with Anthony Kiedis in which he discussed working with Danger Mouse rather than Rick Rubin, Elton John playing on Sick Love, etc:

How have the Peppers maintained a fruitful working relationship for so long?
We never had any confusion that everything should be equal: the sharing of the work, the sharing of the money, the sharing of the joy, the sharing of the pain. That was a big step in the right direction for us having the potential for longevity, because so many bands break over “Hey, I wrote that!” We do love and respect each other; we do fight regularly. Our attitudes, our moods, and our egos clash — but we’ve been able to work it out. We’ve been able to roll with the punches. Flea and I are like brothers. I don’t think that relationship will ever end no matter what, because you can’t quit your brother. You just can’t.
