Chili Peppers finish new CD at L.A.’s Chateau Marmont

“We have tons of songs,” says the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis. After months at a Sunset Strip studio, Kiedis and longtime producer RICK RUBIN moved things into the Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont (where Kiedis used to live) to finish the band’s next record, By the Way, out in late June. “We set the microphone up in the bedroom and the recording studio in the living room,” Kiedis says. “We stayed there for a couple of months.” What does it sound like? “Very emotional. I’ve cried a few times.” Fans are crying over the fact the group likely won’t tour America until early next year. “I’m definitely petitioning for some guerrilla shoes,” says Kiedis. “We want to play for our fanhood.”
